As you browse the web, residual traces of your activities online slowly build up. Often these are simply browser cookies, history of visited web pages, and files in your browser's cache folder. When you run Internet Explorer under the control of Sandboxie -- this is termed "sandboxing a program" -- any changes that should have been made in your system are instead recorded in the sandbox. The sandbox is a special folder in your hard disk that keeps all these changes. Sandboxie shows Internet Explorer a view of your computer system that merges the contents of the sandbox with how your system really looks, making Internet Explorer believe the changes were really effected.
