SmsRc reads incoming messages from a mobile phone and takes various actions upon receipt. It can execute SQL queries, send SMs or Winpopup messages and update a logfile according to the rules you write. The actions may depend on the message sender or body. With SmsRc you can simply integrate you database with SMS messaging: e.g. organize SMS poll for your customers or let your employees to update your database remotely.
SmsRc can run as a tray app at your desktop, it can also run as a full-featured NT/2000/XP service. The latest way to run is useful to integrate SmsRc with server applications, e.g. corporate internet/intranet webservers or MSSQL databases.
To make use of SmsRc you need a cellular phone with a data cable or IrDA (infrared) port. Ericsson R320, SonyEricsson R520, SonyEricsson T610 are known to work, other phone types may have problems, but it's likely that SW4ME.com support will get them working if you cooperate.
After installing SmsRc, you will have some examples which shows what it can do. One of these examples is tailored for MSSQL "Northwind" sample database: upon receipt of a specially constructed short message, it updates status information for the given invoice. |
